Adopt a Family: Berger Realty Group

December 7, 2019

People often ask us how they can get involved during the holiday season. Families and individuals contact us eager to adopt a family or individual of their own. It is in these generous acts that we really do feel the heart of our community coming together to help its own. We are equally touched and humbled when a local business adopts a family or families. Co-workers and colleagues come together to shop, wrap, and deliver gifts as a team. It is incredible to see the sense of pride that comes out when people get behind a common cause.

The Berger Realty Group and U-Store Michigan, have been participating in the Adopt a Family program since 2012. We recently met with Diane Isaacs, Berger Realty Group’s Chief Financial Officer, and Laurie Bounds, Berger Realty Group’s Office Manager and a member of the Berger family.

Laurie shares with us about the company’s philanthropic roots: The Adopt a Family program was brought to the family’s attention after members volunteered at Fall Fix Up. Laurie tells us that her family’s foundation, The Stanley L and Phyllis Berger Family Foundation, which supports education, health, and Jewish causes, matches employee contributions dollar-for-dollar.

Diane tells us, “The owners of Berger Realty Group are philanthropic and very active in the Jewish community. An email is sent out to all 80 employees each year. Even our Ohio employees get involved.” The company makes every effort to encourage and support their employees participating in the program. Adopt a Family is incorporated into the company’s culture with group shopping trips, a wrapping party, and a company-wide thank you at the annual holiday event.

Both women talk fondly of the warm and caring company culture stating that one of Berger Realty Group’s very first employees, a woman named Jackie, still comes to participate in the company’s Adopt a Family events.

Diane says, “To be able to help someone in need is more than I can put into words I am so fortunate to have all that I have. So many people do not.” Laurie echoes the sentiment stating, “JFS makes it very easy to contribute. They are available. They help all religions. You can choose to shop yourself or make a charitable donation. JFS has access to families who need the most help. We are so happy to help them out.”

The holidays are quickly approaching but you can still get involved. To learn more, contact Lindsay 248.592.2309
