Legal Referral Service
The JFS Legal Referral Service is generously supported by the Jewish Women’s Foundation and was created to help our clients in these tough economic times to obtain legal consultation and possible representation. We are looking for lawyers who are willing to accept at least one pro bono client per year to help with their legal issues including:
- Family Law and Elder law
- Debt Resolution/Bankruptcy
*The Legal Referral Service is available only to those individuals or families currently being served by Jewish Family Service, and is contingent upon the availability of our volunteer attorneys. As you may qualify for other services, please contact us at 248.592.2313 or firstname.lastname@example.org to see how we may be of assistance.
The Legal Referral Service celebrated ten years of pro-bono legal support to JFS clients with a firsthand account of Detroit’s bankruptcy from Judge Steven Rhodes, who presided over the case. Beth recently left a violent and stressful situation. Her husband was abusing her physically, verbally and sexually. With the help of JFS, she fled her marital home while her husband was at work, and is now living at the secure shelter. Fearing for her safety, she left quickly, without clothes, possessions or financial documentation. In addition to receiving counseling services, Beth was assisted by one of our attorneys in order to file for divorce and maintain her safety.
Since 2008, more than $2 million in legal services have been provided. As an Access to Justice provider, any donation to Jewish Family Service is recognized for meeting the Bar Association’s pro bono recommendation.
