Mission
Jewish Family Service is dedicated to helping individuals and families cope, survive and thrive in an ever-changing world. We are focused on the needs of the Jewish community while providing services to all.

Programs

Providing support and encouragement at every stage of life.

A 501 (c)3 non-profit agency, JFS is comprised of a dedicated board, a committed staff--including masters level social workers and case managers; and a multi-talented corps of devoted volunteers.

For Jewish people in the metro Detroit area, JFS is the safety net. JFS restores their dignity, and provides a lifeline of hope and support. At JFS, we offer support for those beset with difficult situations. We counsel families in crisis. We hold the hand of the grieving. We assist with food, shelter, access to healthcare and prescription medication.

Established in 1928, JFS continues to assist people in the greater Detroit area regardless of race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation.

JFS is a beneficiary agency of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit and United Way for Southeastern Michigan. The agency also receives support from individuals contributions, bequests, and foundation, corporate and government grants.

When you support JFS with a financial contribution, you feed children. You assist the frail. You help adolescents cope with divorce, eating disorders, and the everyday struggles of growing up. Please join our Friends of the Family Campaign, and help us to help those who need us the most.

Our community responds to the mortgage crisis

In cooperation with Jewish Housing Association, Inc., Hebrew Free Loan, and the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, JFS helps to ensure, assist and support affordable housing options for a growing number of Jewish families who are unable to keep up their mortgage payments.  For information on the Jewish Housing Association, Inc., please visit their website at www.jhamd.org
