Mentor Connection

This unique program matches volunteer adult mentors with Oakland County youth (ages 7-17) who can benefit from your support and guidance.

You’ll enrich the life of a young person, and help them develop critical skills, just by participating in activities you both enjoy. Whether it’s playing video games, going out to lunch, or talking about career aspirations, your one-year commitment of just 2-4 hours twice-a-month will make a big impact on your mentee.

How big?

Research indicates that youth who meet regularly with their mentors are less likely than their peers to start drinking or using illegal drugs, or skip a day of school. Young adults without the same opportunities as their peers who have a mentor are more likely to be enrolled in college and participate in regular sports or extracurricular activities.

Mentor Connection matches mentors and youth based on similar interests, hobbies and geographic location, and have the option of participating in group activities such as sporting events, ice skating, bowling and museum visits, as organized by Jewish Family Service.

Mentors are supported through quarterly educational trainings and ongoing communication with Mentor Connection staff. They also receive free or discounted services to local businesses through our Community Partnership program

Community Partners

Mentors are financially responsible for the activities they do with their mentees and this burden can inhibit some from becoming a mentor. To help mentors with expenses, we’ve partnered with Oakland County establishments in order to offer free or discounted rates for outings with their mentee. If you are affiliated with a business or organization and would like to help our mentors continue to play a critical role in the life of a youth, please contact the Volunteer Supervisor at 248.592.2317 or
