Volunteer Appreciation Month: Naomi Trager

March 30, 2019

We are so appreciative of the many volunteers that give countless hours to Jewish Family Service all over the agency.

Naomi has been volunteering here for almost 3 years doing office responsibilities in the Volunteer Services office. She likes organizing and filing and says, “I like the old way. No computers, no phones.”

Here are some of our favorite facts about Naomi.

She walks about 2 miles per day. In fact, she walks to JFS when the weather is nice.

Naomi is a Holocaust survivor. She was in an Italian camp from 1945-1948. Naomi came to Detroit with her 3-month-old daughter in 1948. She has 4 children, 7 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.

Naomi’s nickname is, “The Champagne Lady.” She jokes, “On my first day here, Emily (Volunteer Services Supervisor) asked me if I would like something to drink. I told her, “Well, I only drink champagne!'”

Naomi says, “I love JFS. I love when Emily calls me. Coming here gives me purpose and gives me something to do. We are actually helping people here.”

Thank you, Naomi, for all your do for JFS and our community!
