JFS Spotlight Event
We hope that you will join us at our Spotlight Event on May 29, 2019 featuring Liza Long.
Liza Long is a mental health advocate and author of The Price of Silence: A Mom’s Perspective on Mental Illness, which details her experience raising a son with bipolar disorder. Her essay, “I Am Adam Lanza’s Mother,” was written after the public tragedy of the Newtown shooting and quickly went viral, leading to Long’s appearance on The Today Show, Good Morning America, Anderson Cooper 360, and many other outlets. She was featured in the HBO documentary, A Dangerous Son, which aired in May 2018. She is a board member of the International Bipolar Foundation.
After the Newtown school shooting in 2012, Liza wondered if her son, who has bipolar disorder, was capable of committing a similar act, in her blog post, “I Am Adam Lanza’s Mother.” Her book, The Price of Silence, looks at how we address mental illness, especially in children. Don’t miss Long’s moving story of helping her some and fighting stigma.
