Family Crisis Support
Everyone has to manage financial, medical, or personal responsibilities, and sometimes even manage these responsibilities for other family members. Unexpected problems such as unemployment, disabling medical problems, or unexpected financial expenses can suddenly make these responsibilities seem overwhelming or out of control.
For many people, just meeting financial commitments may have become challenging during the recent difficult economic times. The stress of not being able to make a mortgage payment or pay monthly bills becomes very heavy. Professional support is available from JFS’ Family Case Managers.
Case Managers are like personal “contractors” – they are the main contact to help develop a plan and locate resources and services to meet the personalized needs of individuals and families facing financial, medical, or other personal crises. They work with you to plan solutions and implement lasting changes to help make life manageable again, using resources including:
- Federal Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds to assist qualified individuals and families with food needs
- Housing assistance to prevent foreclosure or assistance in a transition to affordable housing
- Healthcare access for adults without medical insurance
- Emergency financial assistance paid to a third party through various grants and sources to help qualifying people meet short-term financial needs
- Mental health or addiction treatment services
- Budget review and referral to community resources, including interest free loans through Hebrew Free Loan
- Employment services from a JVS expert located at JFS
- Information and assistance accessing other resources in the broader community
- Information and assistance with caregiving for older adults
JFS Family Case Managers have helped over 950 individuals and families over the past year. If you or someone you know may be in a situation where we can help, contact us at 248.592.2313 or contact us.
