Adoption Information

JFS is no longer a direct provider of adoption services.  The Resource Center can provide referrals to many adoption service providers in the community that offer culturally and religiously competent services for the Jewish community.

Adoptees over 18 years of age whose birth parents terminated their parental rights on or after September 12, 1980, are legally entitled to obtain the name given to him/her prior to adoptive placement and to request other identifying information about their birth family.  All Jewish Family Service and Alliance for Adoption records are now held by the State of Michigan Department of Human Services.  Adoptees seeking information should submit a written request accompanied by photo identification, a contact address and telephone number to:
