FAQs

What is the Project Chessed mission?

Project Chessed believes that “no patient should be left behind”.  We are committed to improving health outcomes for medically uninsured Jewish adults by providing access to needed health care.

What are the Project Chessed goals?

  • To connect medically uninsured Jewish adults to health care
  • To improve patient compliance to prescribed treatment
  • To decrease the inappropriate and costly use of emergency departments

Are you an insurance plan?

NO. Project chessed is neither an insurance policy nor a Medicare supplement.  We are an access network connecting the medically uninsured to care through community partnerships.  All providers are volunteers who donate their services.

How are you funded?

This is a “safety net” program of Jewish Family Service that receives major support from private philanthropy and foundations, including:

  • The Jewish Fund
  • Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit
  • Jewish Women's Foundation
  • Ravitz Foundation
  • The Slingshot Fund
    The Slingshot Fund
  • Recipients of a Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Strengthening the Safety Net Grant
  • The Sinai Guild

Our individual and institutional partners provide pro-bono care to those individuals referred to them through Project Chessed.

Asking for help can be embarrassing.  How does the program address this?

Our staff is sensitive, tactful and professional.  Our services are strictly confidential and we are fully compliant with HIPAA regulations.

How does a potential client contact Project Chessed?

If you or someone you know is a medically uninsured Jewish adult in need of health care, contact us.
