JFS provides assistance to community members of all backgrounds seeking assistance to access health insurance. Our team of certified health care navigators helped more than 10,000 community members explore and purchase insurance on the health care marketplace in 2013 and 2014 through the Affordable Care Act, and we assisted many others in signing up for Michigan's expanded Medicaid program.
All consumers can sign up for health care during open enrollment, but those facing
qualifying life events can apply during a special enrollment period. These include:
• Job change or job loss
• Household change: IE, Marriage or divorce, birth or adoption of a child
• Losing other health coverage
• Being denied Medicaid or CHIP coverage
• Moving your residence outside your insurance plan’s service area
• Gaining citizenship
• Leaving incarceration
We also assist qualifying individuals and families in applying for Medicaid throughout the year. See the flyer below, call 248.592.2300 or contact us to request more information. No one should go without coverage -- if you need help understanding your options, please contact us today!
Please note, JFS has discontinued Project Chessed. The availability of permanent health insurance for low income community members has made the program obsolete.*
