President’s Message

Welcome to the new and much improved website of Jewish Family Service of Metropolitan Detroit!  We are very proud of our new look and hope that you find our website to be a valuable resource for you and your family.

As President of the Board of Directors of Jewish Family Service, I am so proud to be part of an agency that is known as the Jewish community’s safety net, while providing services to all individuals and families in metropolitan Detroit.  Our community’s promise that “No Family Stands Alone” is fulfilled every day by the exceptional professionals at JFS who work tirelessly to ensure that every client has sufficient food, clothing and shelter, access to mental health counseling, access to pro bono medical care and legal assistance, protection from an abusive spouse or family member, eldercare services, and so much more.

There are three pillars of support that make the work of JFS possible:  JFS’ incredible professional staff, the generous financial support of our community and community partners, and the selfless contribution of time and energy by thousands of JFS volunteers.  These three pillars, along with oversight by JFS Board of Directors and many other community voices, have supported many generations of Detroit Jewry and are especially needed as we recover from the devastating economic recession that recently hit Southeastern Michigan.

For me, serving on the Board of Directors of JFS is my way of saying “thank you” to the Detroit Jewish community and to my parents, grandparents and extended family for raising me in such a vibrant, nurturing and supportive Jewish community.  I now want to help ensure that future generations of Jewish Detroit can feel as fortunate as I do.
