Education at JFS

As of July 2005, significant changes have taken place regarding the regulation of the social work profession within the State of Michigan.  One of the requirements implemented with these changes is the completion of continuing education units (CEUs) for fully licensed social workers at the bachelors and masters level (LBSW or LMSW).

Fully licensed social workers are required to complete 45 units/hours of board approved continuing education “activities” every three years, in correlation with their licensing cycle (including 5 credits in ethics and 1 in pain/symptom management).  Currently, limited license social workers and social service technicians do not have continuing education requirements.

Jewish Family Service of Metropolitan Detroit (JFS) is an approved provider (#1130) for social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB), through the Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program (www.ASWB.org).   Depending on the content and nature of a given workshop, JFS may seek CEU approval from additional professional groups.  All approval information will be listed on the promotional materials for each individual program.  JFS will be hosting approved continuing education programs throughout the year.

Jewish Family Service of Metropolitan Detroit is an Approved Provider through MCBAP – Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals.  MCBAP will award contact hours for each 2010 continuing education program listed on this page.  Individual programs will be considered either SPECIFIC or RELATED to Substance Abuse.

Other professional organizations/governing bodies (non-Social Work) may provide their own individual program applications that participants can submit to them – in order to attempt to receive continuing education credit hours/units – if educational programs are not approved for that professional group.  Please check with your own statewide or national professional groups (non-Social Work) for more information.
